Compounded medicines

Prepared for you, not for a shelf.

Some prescriptions can’t be filled from stock — they’re made up individually, exactly as your prescriber wrote them. If you hold one, send it to us and we’ll handle the rest.

How it works

Three steps, start to door.

1

Send your script

Send us your prescription online in a couple of minutes — the code from the SMS or email your prescriber sent you, or a photo of a paper script to get started.

2

We review & confirm your price

A registered pharmacist checks your prescription. Compounded medicines are prepared individually, so we confirm your exact price with you — nothing is charged until you approve it.

3

Prepared, then posted

Your medicine is prepared to your prescriber’s exact order by a registered Australian compounding pharmacy, then sent by tracked express post.

What to expect

Said plainly, kept plainly.

  • 01Reviewed by a registered pharmacist within 1 business day — usually much faster
  • 02You approve your exact price before anything is charged
  • 03Medicines that need to stay cold travel in insulated packaging with ice packs
  • 04Tracking number by SMS within 24–48 hours of dispensing

Paper prescription? We can start from a photo, but by law the original must reach the pharmacy before your medicine can be supplied — we’ll walk you through posting it to us.

Who prepares it

Treatments that require specialist preparation are compounded by registered Australian compounding pharmacies we partner with — so every prescription is dispensed by a qualified Australian pharmacist before it is posted to you.

Common questions

Asked & answered.

What is a compounded medicine?

A compounded medicine is one a pharmacist prepares individually, to your prescriber’s exact order, rather than one manufactured in standard strengths and taken off a shelf. It’s made up specifically for you once a valid prescription is confirmed.

Do I need a prescription for a compounded medicine?

Yes. Compounded medicines are prescription-only — you’ll need a valid prescription from your own doctor or health practitioner. Scriptwell dispenses and delivers; we don’t arrange prescriptions or consultations.

How long does a compounded prescription take to reach me?

A registered pharmacist reviews your script within 1 business day, usually sooner. Because each compounded medicine is prepared individually, it takes a little longer to make up than a stock item before it can be dispatched. Once it’s on its way you’ll get a tracking number by SMS within 24–48 hours of dispensing.

Why do you confirm the price before preparing it?

Compounded medicines are made individually, so the price varies with each prescription — there’s no shelf price to quote. A pharmacist confirms your exact price first, and nothing is charged until you approve it. TGA advertising rules also mean we can’t list prescription-medicine prices publicly.

Can you deliver a compounded medicine anywhere in Australia?

Yes — we post Australia-wide by tracked express post, in plain, discreet packaging. Anything that needs to stay cold travels in insulated packaging with ice packs, timed to avoid sitting in a depot over a weekend. Local patients can choose pickup instead.

This page explains the dispensing process only. It isn’t medical advice and doesn’t discuss any particular medicine — those conversations belong with your prescriber and pharmacist.
